New Delhi: As a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative of the government of India, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on August 24, 2022, launched ‘Azadi Quest,’ a series of online educational mobile games developed in collaboration with Zynga India.
“It is an opportunity to delve deeper into the story of India’s freedom struggle, and learn about the unsung heroes who contributed immensely to the cause of India’s independence.” A press statement from the Ministry stated.
“The one-of-its-kind initiative takes inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to the stakeholders of the gaming industries to develop games and toys that showcase the milestones of India’s freedom struggle, and the valor of the great freedom fighters. The idea is to ‘engage, entertain and educate young and old alike about the struggle for India’s independence as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. These games are an effort to tap into the huge market of online gamers and to educate them through games.” It added.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture, and achievements. The official journey of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on March 12, 2021, which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence and will end post a year on August 15, 2023.
Speaking at the occasion, Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur remarked that the initiative was another in the series of efforts by the Government to bring forth the stories of the Indian freedom struggle.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken consistent steps to nurture the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic (AVGC) sector in India. In the past few years, India has risen to rank among the top five countries in the gaming sector. The gaming sector has grown by 28% in 2021 alone. The number of online gamers has risen by eight percent from 2020 to 2021 and by 2023, the number of such gamers is expected to reach 45 crores.
The Minister further stated that these apps will bolster the capabilities of India’s AVGC sector and at the same time take the country’s glorious history to the corners of the world.
The information in these apps has been curated by the Publications Division and the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) as an easily accessible treasure trove of authentic information on India’s freedom struggle.
They provide the player with a platform beyond the classroom to learn more about the journey of India’s independence and the gallantry of Indian freedom fighters, interwoven with fun gameplay.
